SALTY WELLS AT CHORAO

SALTY WELLS AT CHORAO

Chorao is the village of Tiswadi taluka in Goa,known for water scarcity. It is noticed that the  wells (primary sources of water of the village)  are turning in to salty water wells. Mostly these wells dry out till the end of April. Therefore villagers used to suffer due to water scarcity. But recently another problem arrived when villagers noticed that water of their wells was turning in to salty water. The reason behind this were the artificial fish ponds in khajan area of the village.
These fish ponds were dug inorder to breed tigerprowns but due to severe oposition this idea was dropped. ponds which were dug were not covered so salty water accumulated in these ponds and the ground water came in contect with the salty water. now if required measures are not taken than all the wells of village might turn in to salty water wells.
